As you may or may not know, World Clean Up day falls on September 15. In preparation for this amazing event here are three quick facts to bring you up-to-date:
1. How did it get started?
Believe it or not, the movement actually started in Estonia. 10 years ago! The Let’s Do It! World organization managed to get 50,000 people to come together to clean up the country, in just 5 hours. Talk about cleaning power.
2. What is the purpose of World Cleanup Day?
Aside for the obvious, World Cleanup Day represents: One day. One planet. One goal. Millions of people in 150 countries unite to clean up our world, in the biggest civic action in human history.
3. How can I participate?
There are two main ways you can participate, either by joining an event, in your own country, or if you really want to go above and beyond you can join a cleanup event in a different country. If joining an organized event isn’t your thing, no worries! You can organize your own. The point is to help clean up the world. The way in which you go about it is up to you.
So whether you’re joining, creating, staying put, or flying somewhere else, get up, get out, and help clean up! If you want to read about how FRÉ helps the environment on a day-to-day basis, check out our blog One Tree, One Earth
