Sustainability and protecting the planet are a large part of the FRÉ mission.
Over the last three months, we renewed all of our packaging and upgraded to more sustainable materials, including glass, recycled plastic and sugarcane. We’re still not at 100% sustainability, but this is the direction we’re moving towards.
Types of sustainable packaging used by FRÉ
Glass
Glass is made from raw materials (sand, soda ash and limestone) that are melted at a very high temperature. It is also fully recyclable and reusable. In fact, recycling old glass into new glass requires much less energy than it would to melt raw materials.
Sugarcane Plastic
Sugarcane is a renewable resource that reproduces in cycles of less than one year. As sugarcane grows it also absorbs carbon dioxide, helping to reduce carbon emissions and clean the air. Sugarcane plastic is 100% recyclable as well.
Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) Plastic
PCR is created from previously used and recycled materials that are reprocessed into new packaging. Using PCR plastic instead of virgin plastic can reduce the carbon footprint by up to 60 percent.
Currently over 80% of our packaging is made with recycled plastic, sugar cane, or glass.
These are some of the major upgrades we did:
In April 2021, we introduced CLEANSE ME, which is 100% PCR plastic and comes with a refill bag. This was another major initiative to reduce overall plastic waste.
We’re also extremely proud of the “I AM” line with Talia Sutra, which uses glass bottles and is 100% eco-friendly, as well as our pure organic Argan Oil, which also comes in glass. We plan to move more products over to glass bottles, and later this year will be launching two new products - a Vitamin C serum and an Anti-wrinkle cream - both of which will be packaged in glass.
Hand-in-hand with our sustainable packaging initiatives, our ultimate goal is to be climate positive. Our “One Set, One Tree” program significantly contributes to this goal by planting a tree for every FRÉ skincare set that’s purchased. Not only does this ensure the sustainability of Argan Oil, the central ingredient in our skincare, tree planting is a significant way to reduce carbon emissions and help fight climate change on a global scale.
