EXERCISE AND YOUR SKIN SPF (Sun Protecting Factor) is the combination of ingredients that protect our skin from the harmful sun rays. It can be physical or chemical. Did you know that sweat causes photo-sensitivity to UV sun rays and it intensifies the sun damage, causing premature aging? SPF is important! Go for SPF30 and above, because the skin on the face and neck is very gentle.
You should choose a non-comedogenic SPF that is also sweat-resistant and moisturizing. Read the ingredients carefully; stay away from Parabens, Mineral oil (paraffin), DEA, Petrolatum, PEG and Propylene Glycol. Go for something vegan, when possible. Ingredients you should look for in your SPF are vitamins (A, B5, E), because they fight the free radicals and firm your skin. Flowers and leaves extracts such as chamomile and melissa are antioxidants and are anti-bacterial; they will calm and sooth your skin. Last but not least, essential fatty acids are great for your skin, because they restore the natural barrier function. You also want something light, that will not clog your pores (because many creams appear thick and they never sink in). Moreover, it is very important for the SPF to protect you from UVA, UVB and IRA rays.
The SPF number is actually referring to the time your skin is protected, so the higher you go, the less you will need to re-apply it!
Makeup is not suggested to be applied when sweating, because it can clog your pores.
Cleanse+
Sweat can clog your pores, which causes breakouts, blackheads and dull looking skin. To prevent that, grab a travel container and put a little bit of your favorite, deep cleanser in, throw it in your gym bag and use it in the shower. Choosing your cleansing skincare is important, so you need to know several things. First of all, you want something gentle, because your skin has already been outside under the sun. The product has to be able to nourish and clean your skin from sweat and dead cells, at the same time. Some of the most efficient natural ingredients are argan and aloe vera; it soothes inflamed skin and it nourishes. Hamamelis helps to purify, as well as calming redness. Last, but not least, since you are cleansing, you do need some type of exfoliant, but not something harsh, that will stress the skin – we want to destress, so look for an ingredient such as jojoba beads. They do exfoliate and purify the skin, but very gently. What is more, they remove excess oils, dead skin cells and unclog pores, so after that your skin has a healthy glow and smooth texture.
Treatment+
High-impact workout and intense sweating can cause anti-oxidative stress, fostering collagen degeneration, elasticity and firmness loss, as well as PH balance disruption which leads to irritation and redness. We suggest using a special treatment. What that should be? Look for something that is customized for post-sweat skin, that combats both the short and long-term harm caused when sweat combines with UVA, UVB & IRA rays and other harmful environmental conditions. Ingredients like sterols, which help to retain moisture and argan stem cells, which vitalize and regenerate are key. Treatments like this will not only prevent sweat sores, but it will also treat existing ones.
Don’t take sweat sores like something minor, because at some point skin damage can become permanent. Take proper care, choose the right natural products and always use a non-comedogenic and sweat-resistant moisturizer with SPF30. Love your sweat, love your skin!
