10 FRÉ Tips to maintain your Glow throughout Winter

Dry scaly skin and chapped lips - Winter!

But, starting today, you can say goodbye to cold weather skin damage, and say hello to Your Winter Glow. Our top 10 Winter Skincare Tips will keep you merrily moisturized and happily hydrated.

    1. Wash in Lukewarm Water

A hot shower at the end of a freezing cold day… heaven! But hot water has a dehydrating effect on the skin. When you can rather choose lukewarm water to avoid stripping as many natural oils away from the skin.

    2. Choose the right moisturizer

During winter, you really need the right moisturizer. Some store-bought moisturizers have petroleum-based ingredients that can result in very dry facial skin during winter. Rather go for one that is formulated with natural, nourishing ingredients. Look for an argan oil-based moisturizer rather than a water-based solution, as it’s more likely to help your skin retain moisture in the winter.

    3. Moisturize straight after showering

Your skin not only needs more moisture but moisture right after you wash. Applying moisturizer to damp skin helps seal that dampness into the skin. Keep your favorite moisturizer for face and body in your bathroom and gym bag so you can lather up immediately.

    4. Protect

Get used to wearing gloves and scarves to protect skin from cold winds, rain, and snow. Also, don’t forget the sunscreen. Winter sun can be just as damaging as the summer sun, especially if it reflects off of snow.

    5. Humidify

Heating systems dry out the air, so consider installing a humidifier in your home, particularly in your bedroom, to put moisture back into the air and help prevent your skin from drying out.

    6. Overnight Moisturize

Dryer areas like hands, feet, elbows, and knees have thin skin and tend to lose moisture faster than other areas on the body. Consider slathering on a dry oil to keep these areas richly moisturized.

    7. Exfoliate

We often forget to help the skin slough off dead cells in the winter, particularly on our hands. Yet moisture can’t get in if the dead cells are too plentiful. Use an exfoliating clearing mask your face and your hands, as well as gently on your lips, then follow immediately with moisture to truly see a difference. Exfoliating body washes are also helpful in the winter months.

    8. Hydrate From the Inside Out

Drink, drink, drink - WATER. Hot drinks such as coffee have a dehydrating effect on the skin so make sure to rehydrate by drinking lots of water.  A little warm water with lemon can be a great alternative as it is warm, comforting, and hydrating.

    9. Use a Hydrating Cleanser

Cleansers can be extremely drying to the skin. In winter choose a more hydrating version that contains moisturizing ingredients. After cleansing, don’t leave the skin naked for more than 30 seconds, as this can dehydrate it, leading to increased dryness. Apply a hydrating serum and moisturizer to seal in moisture.

    10.  Avoid Allergens and Irritants

If you have eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis, you have to avoid allergens and irritants that may trigger a flare-up. Winter skin is more fragile, so avoid scratchy fabrics like wool and rather layer up with cotton clothing.
