Sabine is a FRÉ ambassador since July 2017
Occupation: Owner of BakedBySabine and Soulcycle instructor
I am a Soulcycle instructor. I own my own cake company. And I’m starting a cookie business. My life is centered around fitness….and sugar.
I’ve always been in love with baking and desserts. Some of my earlier memories are of baking carrot cakes with my aunt up in Canada. I would beg to bake it as often as possible. There was something so amazing about mixing all the ingredients together and watching it turn into something I could only translate as: Edible Love. I can still remember licking the bowl or spoon at the end of baking. The mixture of pineapple, carrot, raisins and brown sugar was intoxicating. To this day, carrot cake is still my favorite dessert.
The thing I love about baking and desserts is how the flavors and tastes are usually associated with amazing memories. Desserts are nostalgic, and who doesn’t love thinking about a time in your life when you were insanely and unapologetically happy?
That being said, I fell into my business, BakedbySabine. One day I just started baking more, and more. Watching more and more baking shows. Letting myself get inspired by art pieces, instead of foods. My cakes are unlike anyone else's, because they come from a genuine place of artistry. Now that I’m starting a cookie company on the side, I will get to explore even more flavors and textures.
However, the more I baked the more I had to taste things and the more samples I had. Which led to eating desserts ALL THE TIME and to me gaining 20 pounds. 20 pounds?! I was floored when I found out.
There is a myth, that if you teach fitness you are automatically always in shape. THAT IS A LIE. Firstly, my classes aren’t my workouts. I’m focused on everyone else, not how many calories I’m burning. Secondly, you cannot outrun a bad diet…unfortunately. So when I stepped on that scale and realized I had gained weight, I immediately decided to make changes.
It was a challenge to find a balance between both worlds, but I have. Life is too short not to have the cookie! So enjoy it, make memories, but remember to love your health and body as much as you love your taste-buds.
