  • Transition into Fall: How to Adapt your Skincare Routine

Transition into Fall: How to Adapt your Skincare Routine

Fall is a time of transition, where we say goodbye to summer, and get ready for the colder months. We also tend to change our daily habits, spending less time outdoors, getting back into routine, and even choosing different activities and workouts than we did in summertime.

The fall season brings changes in weather, which include lower temperatures and less humidity. This means that your skin has to work harder to maintain adequate hydration.

Skin, lips and hair tend to become drier, duller and less shiny compared to in the summertime, with variations from person to person, of course. Dry skin also produces less sebum, the skin’s natural oils, so it’s easy for skin to feel quite parched.

"The fall season brings changes in weather, which include lower temperatures and less humidity. This means that your skin has to work harder to maintain adequate hydration."

When you’re very active, your skin also loses hydration when you sweat, so it’s even more important to reintroduce moisture with your skincare products.

Here’s what FRÉ’s dermatologist Dr. Debora Landau recommends when adapting our skincare routine for fall:

STEP 1 - Always cleanse your skin!

Cleansing is an important first step in skincare, no matter the season. Our skin connects us with the environment, and we are constantly exposed to external pollutants and toxins. Plus, skin cells are always renewing themselves (mainly at night), leading to a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of our skin. When we sweat, and the sweat sits on our skin, this can clog pores and lead to breakouts, and the same goes for wearing makeup.

"Cleansing is an important first step in skincare, no matter the season."

That is why we need to clean our skin, morning and night, in order to remove all of the dirt, impurities, toxins, dead skin cells, sweat, makeup etc.

    Morning:

Wash your face with PURIFY ME, a water-based cleanser. It contains Jojoba beads to gently exfoliate, remove excess oils and dead skin cells and unclog pores. It also has Shea butter to infuse moisture into the skin and help give it a smoother texture.

    Evening:

Double cleanse: First wash your face with CLEANSE ME, which is formulated to remove oils that accumulate during the day from makeup, excess sebum and sweat. This cleanser uses Hyaluronic acid to provide deep hydration for drier skin. Follow up with PURIFY ME, which will remove any remaining impurities.

    STEP 2 - Hydration

Our skin needs extra hydration during the fall, as does our lips and hair.

    Morning & Evening:

    1. After cleansing, apply a few drops of 100% Organic Argan Oil on your face. It’s super beneficial for skin, lips and hair, with moisturizing, antioxidative effects and much more. Also use it on your lips like a lip balm, and apply to dry or freshly washed hair.
    2. Use the REVIVE ME serum to replenish vitamins and minerals and restore moisture.
    3. Apply BRIGHTEN ME around the eyes .It contains Hyaluronic acid for deep hydration.

"Our skin needs extra hydration during the fall, as does our lips and hair."

STEP 3 - Protect your skin

It’s important to use sunscreen every day of the year, not just in the summer! That’s because the sun’s rays can affect you not only on sunny days, but also when it’s cloudy, rainy, and even snowy. Artificial light can also penetrate skin, leading to dark spots, pigmentation and wrinkles. Sunscreen should ideally be reapplied every two hours.

"It’s important to use sunscreen every day of the year, not just in the summer! That’s because the sun’s rays can affect you not only on sunny days, but also when it’s cloudy, rainy, and even snowy."

    Morning & Afternoon:

Use GLOW ME +, the new tinted SPF30 moisturizer. This is the ‘no makeup’ makeup that will help you maintain a fresh, summery glow even as the temperatures cool down. GLOW ME + is suitable for every skin tone and doesn’t clog pores when you sweat. It contains Hyaluronic acid for deep hydration, and Carnosine, an antioxidant that helps skin recover from UV damage. It also has soothing properties from ingredients like Chamomile, Melissa and Rooibos, which are amazing for calming seasonal dryness.

"GLOW ME + is suitable for every skin tone and doesn’t clog pores when you sweat."

    STEP 4 - Night cream

    Evening:

Use RECOVER ME as the last step in your daily evening routine. It contains Coco-Caprylate and Niacinamide (vitamin B3) to combat dryness and Hyaluronic acid to infuse moisture.

All of the FRÉ products also contain Argania Active Complex, which has hydrating, soothing, restorative, and antioxidant effects. This is extremely beneficial for the transition to fall weather as well.

    BODY CARE

Don’t forget to take care of your skin, from head to toe. You may be tempted to take long, hot showers when the weather cools down, but this can dry out skin. Reduce your shower time and use warm, not hot, water. Wash with a gentle cleanser like PURIFY BODY, which contains Prunus Armeniaca Seed Powder to remove dead skin cells and smooth out rough skin. After showering, hydrate your skin with GLOW BODY, which has ingredients like Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil and Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract.

"Reduce your shower time and use warm, not hot, water."
